THE OLIVE TREES OF THE RIVIERA, 1884. Signed in the plate. A native of Portland, Maine, Colman spent most of his life as a very successful New York City artist, as well as building a splendid home in Newport, RI. He traveled widely in Europe and drew extensively from his experiences there to create paintings as well as etchings.
